Season 2 Finale: What It Feels Like To Have New Foobs
Shauna had a double mastectomy, while Rosalina had a unilateral mastectomy in 2021. Both had to wait six months post-radiation to get their “final” reconstruction surgery. For Shauna, this was the last thing on her list that she needed to check off. She was ecstatic, overjoyed, and looking forward to getting new foobs. Rosalina felt the opposite. She was frazzled and mentally drained from all her research and meeting with her plastic surgeon four or five times to ask more questions and devise a final plan.
It started in 2021, when Rosalina, 28, and Shauna, 32, received the frightening diagnosis of hormone-positive breast cancer. Neither woman knew any young breast cancer survivors in their circle, making an already life-changing event more isolating. When they found each other through a breast cancer support group, they came together to bring awareness of this disease. In between consultations, mastectomy chemotherapy, radiation, breast reconstruction, and recovery, Rosalina and Shauna documented their experiences.
They together created Too Young for this Sh*t, a podcast dedicated to providing comfort and resources to young women around the country. Approximately 7% of all breast cancer diagnoses per year affect women under 40 – and about 80% of young women find their breast abnormalities themselves – Too Young for this Sh*t has become a jump-off point for young women as they navigate this isolating journey.
