S3EP3 - Post Breast Reconstruction Update
Rosalina shares the impact she’s facing from the breast reconstruction, including scarring, healing concerns, and the need for revisions. She opens up about the uncertainties during her breast reconstruction process, her relationship with her plastic surgeon, and the struggle to find closure in her reconstruction journey.
Shauna shares her decision to pursue a second revision, focusing on achieving symmetry and considering fat grafting on her non-cancer side. She also touches on contemplating the LAT tissue flap option and the factors that influenced her decision.
It started in 2021, when Rosalina, 28, and Shauna, 32, received the frightening diagnosis of hormone-positive breast cancer. Neither woman knew any young breast cancer survivors in their circle, making an already life-changing event more isolating. When they found each other through a breast cancer support group, they came together to bring awareness of this disease. In between consultations, mastectomy chemotherapy, radiation, breast reconstruction, and recovery, Rosalina and Shauna documented their experiences.
They together created Too Young for this Sh*t, a breast cancer podcast dedicated to providing comfort and resources to young women around the country. Approximately 7% of all breast cancer diagnoses per year affect women under 40 – and about 80% of young women find their breast abnormalities themselves – Too Young for this Sh*t has become a jump-off point for young women as they navigate this isolating journey.
